JLBN – Windows Apache MySQL PHP – WAMP

WAMP stands for Windows, Apache, MySQL, and PHP. There are a lot of useful WAMP package out there and WampServer is one of the most easy to use and pack with very useful trayicon to manage your server and its settings.

WampServer is a Windows web development environment. It allows you to create web applications with Apache, PHP and the MySQL database. It also comes with PHPMyAdmin and SQLiteManager to easily manage your databases. WampServer installer installs automatically, and its usage is very intuitive. You will be able to tune your server without even touching the setting files.

WampServer is the only packaged solution that will allow you to reproduce your production server. Once WampServer is installed, you have the possibility to add as many Apache, MySQL and PHP releases as you want.

I have had a look around and it looks like my est option is to reinstall wamp. I am not quite sure what is meant by “save your data”

I would appreciate if JLBN you could help?

    kind reards

WARNING : do not try to install WampServer 2 over WAMP5.

If WAMP5 is installed on your computer, save your data, uninstall it and delete the WAMP5 directory before installing WampServer 2.

    I checked
C:\wamp\bin\mysql\mysql5.1.36 and open the configuration file ‘my’ or ‘my.ini’ and it was port=3306

    C:\wamp\apps\phpmyadmin3.2.01\ opened ‘config.inc.php’

    $cfg[‘Servers’][$i][‘port’] = ”; // MySQL port

The port was 80 I deleted the 80 and restarted wamp but there was no change

    Cheers

I have just realised it is MySQL:

I had the situation where I had the yellow+white icon today, and none of the common solutions were applicable.

I confirmed that mysql was running by clicking the wamp icon in the tray and selecting MySQL -> Service. If MySQL is working, you will notice in the following screenshot that the Start menu item is greyed out.

    Back to quare one!

    PS:
When I click on test port 80 I get:

Your port 80 is actually used by :

    Server: apache/2.2.11 (win32) PHP/5.3.0

But when I click on remove service and then try to install service I get:

Your port 80 is actually used by :

Information not available (might be Skype)
Cannot install the apache service, please stop this application and try again.

    I don’t have Skype!

    Kind regards

    Hi JLBN

Sorry to trouble you once again. Hope you be able to help. I am unable to access my wiki and I am also unable to access PhpMyAdmin. Nothing happens at all when I try either.

The wamp server shows it is online on:

    Apache

    Restart service is blanked out

    Stop Service is red

I have tried clicking on restart services goes red then yellow.

Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, Add/Remove Windows Components, uncheck Internet Information Services (IIS) is unchecked.

Also, in folder C:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers\etc, open file hosts and delete anything in this file and have only this line below and nothing else shows as below

    # localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself.
    # 127.0.0.1 localhost
    # ::1 localhost
    127.0.0.1 localhost

I think this may have something to do with the problem, or maybe not!

    C:\wamp\www\index.php

    ‘Unable to open WampServer\’s config file, please change path in index.php file’);

Things were working fine until I had a problem re-installing driver for one one my other programs on my computer. I have had big problems with that and did some clearing out cookies temp files etc so whatever I have done has caused the problem with wamp.

    Kind regards

    Hello,

First thank you very much for all your efforts in this guide.

I do have a problem though.

    I have this directory:
    c:\wamp\www\ruth

My httpd-vhosts.conf file has these lines in it:

    NameVirtualHost *:80

    ServerName ruth
    DocumentRoot “C:/wamp/www/ruth”
    ErrorLog “C:/wamp/www/ruth/logs/error.log”
    CustomLog “C:/wamp/www/ruth/logs/access.log” common

    ServerName localhost
    DocumentRoot “C:/wamp/www”
    ErrorLog “C:/wamp/www/logs/error.log”
    CustomLog “C:/wamp/www/logs/access.log” common

    The hosts file has:

    127.0.0.1 ruth

    The httpd file:

    # Virtual hosts
    Include conf/extra/httpd-vhosts.conf

Yet when I run: http://ruth I get: 500 Internal server error.

Can you please help me and tell me what am I doing wrong?

    Thank you very much

Akshay, by default, when your visitors input your WAN IP in the browser, VH will auto load the first available domain or subdomain, so if you’ve followed this guide precisely, it will show the content of folder domain; you don’t need to input the word “domain” after your WAN IP 😉

Howdy, I totally enjoy reading your site and i also was curious in respect of if there is a way I’m able to subscribe so that I end up having an email everytime you write a fresh post. I don’t spot an RSS button or a contact form, but it may very well be that I just missed it. Anyway, maintain the useful posts.

    Hello,

I’ve been wanting to try making a website with Joomla…

Tried Microsoft’s WebMatrix – didn’t seem to work. Installed XAMP, ran into errors with Apache so uninstalled. Now I’ve tried to install WAMP, but my icon is a red “w” and none of the services are running.

Is there a way to clean out everything and start fresh?

    Many Thanks,

    Robert

Robert, after completely shut down Wamp, if installed and uninstalled Xampp, you still have to run regedit to find and delete any Xampp regitry and also search and delete any file php.ini, my.ini (or my.conf or my.cnf) outside wamp folder

Pauline, make sure no other program conflict Wamp such as Xampp, phpEasy, IIS, Skype, Zonealarm, firewall/antivirus, NOD32, Eset, any web and/or Remote Desktop related program, such as Teamviewer …

IIS and Apache/Wamp are both web server and might conflict in some way, so you have to disable IIS in order for Wamp to work

      Disable IIS in Vista/W7:

Control Panel, Uninstall Programs, Turn Widows Features On or Off, uncheck Internet Information Services

      Disable IIS in XP:

Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, Add/Remove Windows Components, uncheck Internet Information Services (IIS)

      Restart computer, then restart Wamp

Also, in folder C:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers\etc, open file hosts and delete anything in this file and have only this line below and nothing else

      127.0.0.1 localhost

If using Skype, open Skype > tools>options>advanced>connection uncheck “use port 80…” restart Wamp then Skype
