JLBN – Windows Apache MySQL PHP – WAMP

WAMP stands for Windows, Apache, MySQL, and PHP. There are a lot of useful WAMP package out there and WampServer is one of the most easy to use and pack with very useful trayicon to manage your server and its settings.

WampServer is a Windows web development environment. It allows you to create web applications with Apache, PHP and the MySQL database. It also comes with PHPMyAdmin and SQLiteManager to easily manage your databases. WampServer installer installs automatically, and its usage is very intuitive. You will be able to tune your server without even touching the setting files.

WampServer is the only packaged solution that will allow you to reproduce your production server. Once WampServer is installed, you have the possibility to add as many Apache, MySQL and PHP releases as you want.

    Thanks for the guide.

I installed Wamp following the guide. First my wamp icon was yellow, but when i turned off skype it turned white.

My problem is that when i right-click the tray icon, i just get a short menu, about, refresh, help, language, exit..

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks

I am a college Teacher. I was trying to implement WAMP for my students to start their Project. I helped them to configure in the client but couldn’t help in the server. But your site enabled me to access the same from Client. Our College is a charity oriented one and not a profit making one. Thanks a lot for your service. May God bless you for your services your are spreading Gloabally.

    Help…

    Trying to put online, but…

    I get this error…

Could not execute menu item (internal error) [Exception] Could not perform service action: The service has not been started.

Anyone have an idea what’s up? I’m using Vista and turned off Skype. Do I have to uninstall Skype?

When you see a windows w/ “Authentication Required”, it’s most likely you have .htaccess in your folder. Check that file to find the path to open file .htpasswd associated w/ it to get the user and password that you need

Thanks for pointing out the typo; we fixed it. About font color, it’s original from Eclipse template, and we guess the template creator want to show off the spirit of Eclipse; anyway, we will look into it 😉

Great instructions. My life is based on instructions off of the internet, since I can not afford the 12,000 different books I need to buy. I tell ya, these other people who create instructions, where do they come from? I think they can only see as far as the tip of their noses, anything past that they lost you. I want to come back just for more instructions. Thanks!

Sry, but something is not right, why my WAMP doesn’t have any online/offline options in tray icon. I installed it on Win 2000 maybe thats the problem but to get everything working i had to manually edit httpd.conf and change some lines.
If anyone got any syggestions pls give a hint.

We do not have that problem, so make sure you enable the proper extension

    @ Baltazar
We really love to help you to solve your problem but Dreamweaver is not free, so we suggest you try to create a simple PHP script to connect to your MySQL to see if you have the same problem

Opening your computer to the world is very dangerous. There are a good people out there who wold not destroy data on your machine. But everyone would sure have a look around. I would!!!

As for the other folks, they are very dangerous and malicious. They will destroy data and plant malware on your machine just “for fun.”

I would never open my PC to the internet. I keep all udp ports closed and only open up tcp ports 80 and 443 for http and https respectively.

I suggest you read the O’Reilly book: Building Secure Severs with LINUX, by Michael D. Bauer. It has a lot of information about “hardening” your server/PC. It can be purchased at amazon.com for as little at $3.10 US dollars vs. amazon’s price of $40.46.

    Good luck folks!!!
