JLBN – Windows Apache MySQL PHP – WAMP

WAMP stands for Windows, Apache, MySQL, and PHP. There are a lot of useful WAMP package out there and WampServer is one of the most easy to use and pack with very useful trayicon to manage your server and its settings.

WampServer is a Windows web development environment. It allows you to create web applications with Apache, PHP and the MySQL database. It also comes with PHPMyAdmin and SQLiteManager to easily manage your databases. WampServer installer installs automatically, and its usage is very intuitive. You will be able to tune your server without even touching the setting files.

Make sure you don’t save file with hidden txt extension; in Windows Folder Property, you can disable “Hide known extension…” to see your real file extension; also, make sure to save your files in document root folder in order for Apache to parse PHP script; to get more idea, check this guide

Thanks for comment; however, different people have different levels; some can easily get whole idea in just one word or two while a lot still have hard time even with the most simplest step by step instructions and provided screen shot pictures, so put yourself in position of the most idiot person in the world and go through all guides again, then post here if you have good suggestions instead just lame comment 😉

Far too verbose, and poor accessibility. The information shouldn’t needlessly be embedded within pictures. Could’ve been a good guide though.

I am trying to migrate some elderly php pages to a testing server with wamp installed and set up thanks to your clear Guides.

I understand there needs to be either some php code changes or mySQL config changes to get the current wamp setup to read the old php passwords and access the mySQL database as it has for the previous 7 or 8 years. Right now, when I fill out a form to download an item, it tells me that Access is denied for user ‘xxx’@’localhost’ to database ‘name’. Any insight, and especially an example, would be appreciated.
    Best, Robert

Unfortunately I took your advice without backing up the files you said to change. So now it won’t even bring up localhost. I can always reload Wampserver but how do I get my website to connect from my DNS IP to the project shown when localhost works? Thanks.

    * means anything which results to catch any ip that comes; when set to specific ip, you need to have some other settings as well to make it work

How do I set this up with network shares? Apache reports a syntax error on a network drive e.g. X:/somepath

Thanks bro…your tutorial guides really helps a lot. I was able to setup my website with Joomla using WAMP. My next step is to upload it to my host server, is it possible to do that? How can I make my database in my host server?
