A TEEN has revealed homeowners can make around $55 per hour by renting out an amenity in their backyard.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The social media star, known as Mark, said hosts can earn \u201cpassive income\u201d if they pursued the\u00a0side hustle.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mark found that people could make up to $100 an hour by renting out their pools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a TikTok <\/a>video, he used the website Swimply \u2013 a tool that he dubbed the \u201cAirbnb <\/a>for pools\u201d – and found a pool was being rented for $55 an hour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But he said the cost of pools ranged from $40-$100 per hour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mark revealed that if the pool was booked up for 28 hours during the week, hosts would rake in more than $1,500 if they charged $55 per hour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite Mark describing the side hustle as \u201ccool\u201d, viewers weren\u2019t convinced as they thought it was too good to be true.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One said: \u201cI don\u2019t want strangers in my backyard all the time.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While another seemed stunned as they commented: \u201cNo way.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last month, we revealed that Jim Battan, of Oregon, built his backyard pool in 2012 and uses Swimply to rent it out.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

More than 9,000 swimmers have since flocked to Battan’s pool since September 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 57-year-old has earned around $177,000 in less than two years, according to CNBC<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He and his wife Lisa spend around 12-14 hours per week cleaning the pool, managing the bookings, and testing the chemicals in the water<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The pool has come at a cost as Battan has spent more than $110,000 building it and over $35,000 on maintenance over the past decade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He told CNBC that he views the pool as an \u201cinvestment\u201d and takes it \u201creally seriously\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But, Battan warned that “it takes a lot of time to learn about pool chemistry and management”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

‘SERIOUS INVESTMENT’<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

He and his wife receive around 26 visits a week and they aim to put on a good customer service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the winter months, the pool is kept at 90 degrees and guests are offered blankets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It costs $63 per hour for up to five people to rent out the pool during the week and up to $79 at the weekend, according to his Swimply page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There’s an extra fee of $10 an hour per guest after five people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Swimply<\/a> offers hosts up to $10,000 to cover the costs of damages if a renter \u201cis unwilling or unable to pay for damages\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Homeowners thinking about renting out their pool can upload images to the website before they pick an hourly price.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hosts can set their own pool rules and can accept as many guests as they wish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Payments are made directly to hosts\u2019 bank accounts 24 hours after a booking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
