One entrepreneur says all it took was a comment from his now father-in-law to start his side hustle which earns him up to $3,000 a month.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Luke Lorick, founder and CEO of the\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/tailgating-challenge.com\/about\/\" target=\"_blank\">Tailgating Challenge<\/a>, revealed in a podcast interview with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sidehustlenation.com\/football-tailgating-online-business\/\">Side Hustle Nation<\/a>\u00a0that he turned his passion for tailgating into a years-long side business as he continues a corporate job.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>While he is profitable now, Lorick spent the first few years of his side hustle reviewing items for free.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI was just working my regular job and my father-in-law\u2026 planted the seed,\u201d Lorick said in the interview last December.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The tailgating aficionado said roughly 10 years ago, his now father-in-law told him \u201cFind something you enjoy doing outside of work that could potentially become something.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI remember one night I literally woke up in bed and I said, \u2018tailgate challenge\u2019 because I had a couple of business degrees and I love tailgating,\u201d Lorick continued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Originally from South Carolina, Lorick revealed that his passion for tailgating \u2013 an informal social gathering often held in a parking lot before a sporting event \u2013 grew while attending the University of South Carolina.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Shortly after his light-bulb moment, Lorick launched Tailgating Challenge on&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/TailgatingChallenge\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Facebook<\/a>. In the roughly ten years since, his&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.the-sun.com\/money\/6185310\/side-hustle-could-make-you-money-no-face-time\/\">side hustle<\/a>&nbsp;has grown to have its own&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TailgatingChall\">Twitter<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/tailgatingchallenge\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Instagram<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/c\/TailgatingChallenge\/videos\">YouTube<\/a>&nbsp;and official website.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As of Wednesday, Tailgate Challenge garnered had more than 264k followers\/subscribers across their social media platforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through social media, Lorick and his team test and review the best gear people can use during a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.the-sun.com\/lifestyle\/6120609\/best-foods-to-bring-tailgate-nfl-season\/\">tailgating party<\/a>&nbsp;such as various grills, top-notch coolers, or funky folding chairs. Followers can find daily posted reviews on YouTube and their website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tailgate Challenge also reviews fun tailgating games, such as the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CiS717Yp-2V\/\">Zag Bag board.<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, they host frequent giveaways to loyal followers, gifting out the recently reviewed items.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While Lorick currently earns up to $3,000 a month through AdSense, Amazon affiliates, monetizing YouTube and brand deals, he warned that it took a while for his side hustle to come off the ground.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFor the first few years&#8230; I did everything for free. Everything for free,\u201d Lorick said on the podcast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNo affiliates, not taking any cuts, not asking for any money.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s like, I need to build up a genuine authentic brand and actually get some followers right behind that too,\u201d he said, noting that it would\u2019ve been hard to ask companies to partner with him without any statistics to back up his reviews.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The businessman revealed that by doing the reviews for free and launching giveaways, he was able to build up his following and gain awareness for the various brands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOvernight successes don&#8217;t happen overnight,\u201d Lorick said. \u201cLike you&#8217;ve got to put in the hustle, in the grind and do it consistently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;So many people actually like, have all these great ideas and they want to do stuff like this. They don&#8217;t see immediate results and all of a sudden their hustle fades and just kind of becomes a distant memory.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSo it&#8217;s like you have to be passionate about it.
