{"id":10960,"date":"2022-10-06T17:43:17","date_gmt":"2022-10-06T22:43:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.jlbn.net\/?p=10960"},"modified":"2022-10-06T17:43:19","modified_gmt":"2022-10-06T22:43:19","slug":"binance-starts-ethereum-proof-of-work-mining-pool-initially-with-no-fee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blog.jlbn.net\/?p=10960","title":{"rendered":"Binance Starts Ethereum Proof-of-Work Mining Pool, Initially With No Fee"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong><em>ETHW initially stumbled, but mining support from Binance customers could in theory help.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cryptocurrency exchange Binance said customers can now join a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/learn\/what-are-bitcoin-mining-pools\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">mining pool<\/a>&nbsp;for&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/markets\/2022\/09\/16\/ethereum-proof-of-work-fork-crashes-as-justin-suns-poloniex-supports-rival-fork\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ETHW<\/a>, the forked version of Ethereum that retains the blockchain&#8217;s original&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/learn\/2020\/12\/16\/what-is-proof-of-work\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">proof-of-work<\/a>&nbsp;(PoW) underpinnings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Participants in the ETHW Pool will not be charged a fee during a promotional period that ends Oct. 29, according to a\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.binance.com\/en\/support\/announcement\/5ec076eec0cb49babae90f6b0597d5c7\" target=\"_blank\">statement<\/a>\u00a0Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Two weeks ago, the\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/tech\/2022\/09\/15\/the-ethereum-merge-is-done-did-it-work\/\" target=\"_blank\">Ethereum Merge<\/a>\u00a0successfully shifted the blockchain to a\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/learn\/2020\/12\/30\/what-is-proof-of-stake\/\" target=\"_blank\">proof-of-stake<\/a>\u00a0system, eliminating the need for crypto miners on the network. A new, forked version of Ethereum still powered by PoW was created, though it got off to a rocky start.
