One of the most common kinds of errors involves the mint mark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The mint mark is a small letter that is stamped onto the coin indicating the U.S. Mint facility they were made at.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
San Francisco coins typically bear an S, Denver coins are marked with Ds, and so on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There can be a few different errors involving the mint mark, including missing and doubled marks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Coin collector Eric Miller runs\u00a0TheCoinChannel<\/a>\u00a0on Tiktok and shares common errors that can still earn you some cash.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Even if you do find a coin with one of these errors, the true value is based on the grade of the coin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Grades signify how good of a shape the coin is in, with the highest grade being 70.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He ranked the\u00a0top 10 repunched mint mark errors<\/a>\u00a0to look for on Lincoln pennies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Along the left side of the D mint mark on the coin, there will be another line where a second mint mark was punched.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Even in a high grade, this coin only sold for $63 in 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n You can probably assume from the name that this mint mark appears to be tripled on the coin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This one is very easy to spot as the S mint mark is very bulky.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The record-high auction amount for this coin is $135.13.<\/p>\n\n\n\n On this coin, one of the S mint marks is slightly higher than the second one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n One of these sold for a smooth $517.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This penny also features overlapping D mint marks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n You can distinctly see the second one slightly to the left of the first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n You can also spot the second D in the opening of the first one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n One with a mint grade of 67 sold for just over $1,929.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This coin is a bit different as it was minted with two different letters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It can be a bit hard to see, but it looks like the S is almost filled in with the D mark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In a mint state of 66, it sold for $1,320.<\/p>\n\n\n\n On this penny, you can clearly see the year is doubled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Underneath it, the D mark is extremely bold because of the repunch error.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This coin in a mint grade of 66 sold for $400.<\/p>\n\n\n\n For this one, the mint mark looks like it’s bigger on the top than the bottom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n One of these coins with a 64 mint grading sold for $3,290.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This is a tricky one to spot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n You can only see a bit of the S at the top, left-hand corner of the D, and inside the opening of the D.Advertisement<\/p>\n\n\n\n With a mint grade of 67, it sold for $8,400.<\/p>\n\n\n\n You’ll have to get out a magnifying glass to spot the second mint mark on this penny.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It appears as just a small dot on the right of the S near the top.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This is because one of the mint marks isn’t facing in the right direction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n One of these sold for $7,800 with a mint grade of 66.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Steel pennies are already valuable on their own, but one with an error can be worth even more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The two mint marks are very clear on this coin as they are overlapping but slightly offset from each other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In a mint state 67, this one sold for $9,600.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Look through your old change to see if you have a 1950s penny<\/a> worth over $7,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n1. 1909 D over D penny large date penny<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
