JLBN – Windows Apache MySQL PHP – WAMP

WAMP stands for Windows, Apache, MySQL, and PHP. There are a lot of useful WAMP package out there and WampServer is one of the most easy to use and pack with very useful trayicon to manage your server and its settings.

WampServer is a Windows web development environment. It allows you to create web applications with Apache, PHP and the MySQL database. It also comes with PHPMyAdmin and SQLiteManager to easily manage your databases. WampServer installer installs automatically, and its usage is very intuitive. You will be able to tune your server without even touching the setting files.

WampServer is the only packaged solution that will allow you to reproduce your production server. Once WampServer is installed, you have the possibility to add as many Apache, MySQL and PHP releases as you want.

    Thanks for your useful guides!
I have a problem. The “WAMP” does not run completely and most of its menu items are not available.
The only available menu items are Help, Refresh, About & Exit.

    What should I do?

I don’t know how to fix the problem.

By the way, IIS is already installed.

    Thanks for your help!

Bahman, Left Click for Main Menu, Right Click for Secondary Menu, and Double Click for Credit

IIS and Apache/Wamp are both web server and might conflict in some way, so you have to disable IIS in order for Wamp to work

      Disable IIS in Vista/W7:

Control Panel, Uninstall Programs, Turn Widows Features On or Off, uncheck Internet Information Services

      Disable IIS in XP:

Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, Add/Remove Windows Components, uncheck Internet Information Services (IIS)

      Restart computer, then restart Wamp

Also, in folder C:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers\etc, open file hosts and delete anything in this file and have only this line below and nothing else

      127.0.0.1 localhost

If using Skype, open Skype > Tools > Options > Advanced > Connection then uncheck “use port 80…” restart Wamp then Skype

I installed WAMP and had previously had a folder with a static site and was in the process of adding a blog with WordPress…and was working on Xampp and unintalled that to go with Wamp.

I made the directory in phpmyadmin like usual and thought I could simply put the static site/blog (named, “subdirectoryBlog”) in the htdocs like I did with Xampp.

Q: Where’s the htdocs folder? I saw the “subdirectoryBlog” folder in the data folder of mySQL. Is that ok working with WordPress?

    Help is immeasurably appreciated!!!

    Thanks!
    Michael

    Hi JLBN

I am having trouble with phpMyAdmin I would be grateful for some help. I used your intructions to install wamp and mediawiki.

My wiki appears to be working ok and has been for some time. I have just tried to access phpMyAdmin and I get “Cannot start session without errors, please check errors given in your PHP and/or webserver log file and configure your PHP installation properly.”

I have checked the Apache Error log and the last two enteries are: “[error] [client 127.0.0.1] File does not exist: C:/wamp/www/favicon.ico”

Thank you for any help you can give

    Regards

I am sorry , but these tutorials are not organised in computerconfigurations and in stating what the lessons goal is

For example i do have a local computer and don’t use a LAN

Further it is not basic enough for a starter and WAMP is on this way useless, because it is a struggle to setup WAMP

    Downloaded WAMP.
Installed it in M$ XP sp3
A the JB extended menu threw many errors.
I was told that Joomla does, but many extensions do not run on PHP 5.3. “Deprecated: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated in C:\wamp\www\yoursitename\modules\mod_exmenu-j15\exmenu\exmenu.class.php on line 56” and there are many. Something to do with the use of “=&”.
So, I loaded 5.21.4 on Winamp.

    Now, I get:
PHP Startup: gd: Unable to initialize module
Module compiled with ….API=20090626m thread safety=1
    ” ” 20060613
    These options need to match.

Then, PHP startup: Unable to load dynamic library ‘C:/wamp/php/php5.3.0/ext/php-mbstring.dll” The specified procedure could not be found.

    Well, no kidding Sherlock.

It should be looking in C:/wamp/php/php5.21.4/ext/php-mbstring.dll”

    Any idea?

J P Cook, seems Joomla has problem with PHP 5.3.x so you might want to install PHP 5.2.x add-on
